Parking Instructions and Property Map:  When you are pulling in to the property, please use the eastern most driveway.  The center and west driveway are for boarder access to the farm only and will be closed for the event.  Proceed to the back field for registration.  Cars may park on the road west of the western driveway or east of the eastern driveway. There will also be parking available in the center of the property. TRAILERS should park along the road as marked in the map. Please see the following map (note this map is out of date and may be updated prior to event):


Registration is permitted on the day of the event.  Please proceed to the XC field to register and pay.  Schedule will unfold as people register with Intro going first and Novice going last.  Runs are quick and typically last about 5 minutes so please pay attention to the riders NEAR your slot.


What is a derby? 
   You get to jump through a course of mixed stadium and cross country jumps.  What could possibly be more fun?

COURSE WALKING:

Open: The morning of the Derby, until 9:20 am, between levels as well.
No course walking while horses and riders are on course!

General Information:

Vixen Hollow’s Derby is a jumping competition with a course featuring stadium and cross-country jumps. This is a great opportunity for riders or horses new to eventing, as well as those who want a solid practice run or move-up before a recognized horse trials. The Eventing Derby has the following levels: Baby beginner, Intro, Starter, Beginner Novice, Novice. Formal show attire is not required, however ASTM/SEI-approved helmets are required when mounted (protective vests are required when jumping).

Starting times: Registration starts at 8 am.  First Intro ride starts at 9:30 am.

Entry fees: per horse/rider combination: $50. Non-compete is $35. Trailer-in fee is $10. If you are borrowing a horse, it is 10 dollars to the owner per round.

Non-Compete horses welcome, $35 per horse. Negative Coggins required with entry

VERY limited stabling available, stalls are $30/night (first come first served), must provide your own feed and buckets for water.

Cross-country course: Will be open for schooling after the derby at discounted rate of $25 per horse/rider combination. Riders under 18 years must be supervised by an insured trainer!

Refunds: 100% refund available

Ribbons 1st-6th place. 

Rules:

The show office will open at 8:00 am on Sunday morning. Check in and pick up your competitor packet with map and number. Any outstanding fees and/or forms are due at this time.

Each rider/horse combination is assigned a rough time their jumping phase. The times are designed to give each rider enough time to put on their protective vest (if not already wearing), change tack (if desired), and warm their horses up in the jumping area before their jumping test.

Braiding is NOT required.

Coaching is allowed during course walks and in jumping warm-up areas.

Each horse/rider combination must have their own entry form, fee, negative Coggins, and signed liability waiver. Riders do not need to provide Coggins and/or waivers if they have already provided these documents to farm within 2023.

Riders may ride more than one horse in the derby (separate entry forms and fees required for each horse). Horses may be ridden twice in the derby, provided they are with different riders in different levels for each ride.

NO OUTSIDE DOGS ALLOWED. No exceptions.

Scoring: Jumping rounds for BB and intro will not be timed. Jumping rounds are scored with the eventing show jumping penalty system. 5 or more faults is automatic DQ. Time faults are .4 points per second above or below optimal.  20 pts per jumping fault. There will be a 10 second buffer on optimal.

Lowest score wins. Ties will be broken by least faults. If faults are equal then closest to optimal time wins.  If eliminated due to jump refusals, riders may continue to school the rest of the course. Show staff reserve the right to stop and dismiss any unsafe horse/rider combination.

Required extras: ASTM/SEI Certified Helmets and boots are required for all participants. Protective vests encouraged for jumping (required for minors).  Liability waivers and covid-19 waivers must be signed by all participants.  Negative coggins from 2022. Masks recommended indoors for riders and family.

Recommended extras: Bring hand sanitizer, water bottles*, food, bug spray, and sunblock.  These things will not be provided.  There will be water and washstall onsite.  There will be snacks and beverages available for purchase.

*water will be provided for horses in designated stations.  Please bring your own bucket and use designated filling buckets.

Covid-19 Precautions:

– Masking indoors is optional

– Do not attend the show if you have any symptoms of illness within the last 5 days, mask from day 6-10 if confirmed covid positive.
